Newsletter trend ... where are you?
Online and email newsletters increased to 6,055 from 1,053 over the last five years, according to the Oxbridge Directory of Newsletters.
The Oxbridge Directory of Newsletters lists key details for over 15,000 US and Canadian, consumer, association and business newsletters in 255 categories. The 2009 edition of the directory was released in late June.
Print-only newsletters listed in the directory fell 43 percent, from 7,395 to 4,180 in the same time frame. The number of newsletters in both print and electronic formats increased slightly, to 4,949 from 4,859.
The number of newsletters in the 2009 edition totalled 15,343, up from 13,197 in the 2004 edition. Over the last year, online and email newsletters grew to 6,055 from 5,485, while print-only versions dropped from 4,873 to 4,180.
"Overall, newsletters are holding their own in this media-threatening economy. There were 15,185 newsletters in the 2008 edition of the directory, and 15,343 in 2009," Trish Hagood, President of Oxbridge Communications, said in a statement.
What does this mean to you? "The ability to send newsletters online has not made the strategic choice simpler," said Brad Entwistle, Managing Director of Image 7 Group. "In fact, there is now three possible options - print, electronic or both - and understanding the right strategic positioning of your communication for your audience is more critical than ever."
